"The Ashford Cruisers came into being a mere six weeks before the beginning of the 1986 season. The team was started by a group of enthusiasts who had very little experience of the game and immediately found themselves up against some very competent opposition, and with no qualified coaching fumbled through their first year. Having learned on the run the Cruisers secured sponsorship and coaching staff and have their sights set on a conference title in 1987" - source: Budweiser League Yearbook 1987
